No holiday season feels complete without rewatching the story of a child accidentally left behind during the holidays, forced to defend his home from a pair of clumsy burglars using clever booby traps. For many, ‘Home Alone’ has become an essential holiday tradition.

Now, decades later, will fans finally get to see this clever Kevin once again?

Macaulay Culkin, an American actor who played the role of Kevin in the franchise, has always been presenting the idea of a modern ‘Home Alone’ concept. In 2025, it was reported that he pitched an idea for a sequel wherein instead of Kevin being inside the house, he will be locked out by his own son.

“I’m either a widower or a divorcee. I’m raising a kid and all that stuff. I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out,” he told the Variety. “[Kevin’s son] won’t let me in… and he’s the one setting traps for me.”

He added that “the house is some sort of metaphor for our relationship” and his character has to “get let back into son’s heart kind of deal.”

Based on the recent reports, Disney executives loved Culkin’s sequel idea and invited him for a preliminary meeting.

“I got a tip the other day that there was a very interesting sighting on the Disney lot. Macaulay Culkin was there and he’s talked about an idea for a new ‘Home Alone’ and Disney is salivating,” American entertainment journalist Matt Belloni said on his podcast. “They have a good idea. I’ve talked to people who’ve heard it and it’s a really good idea for a ‘Home Alone’ reboot with Macaulay Culkin.”

The report drew several reactions from the fans, with some being excited with the possible sequel, while others hoped that the franchise would stay as is and will not have additional storyline.

‘Home Alone’ is a famous 1990 Christmas comedy film and has achieved immense commercial success, becoming the third-highest-grossing film of all time at the time of its release.
