Fox News late night host Greg Gutfeld has gone on a tirade against Reacher star Alan Ritchson over his fiery comments about President Donald Trump.
Ritchson sparked backlash among the MAGA crowd after he slammed Trump and said that he refused to let go of his anger and resentment surrounding current politics during a recent appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.
“I'm just supposed to let go of my resentment that this f***ing guy is just raping the world that he lives in for whatever gain he personally can have, and I'm supposed to let that go?” the actor, 43, said in Monday’s episode. “I think we should hold on to some of that anger so somebody gets Guy Ritchie’d and wakes up in a pool of their own teeth and blood.”
The hosts of Fox News Channel’s The Five were not happy with Ritchson’s comments, and Gutfeld went so far as to diagnose Ritchson as “spiritually diseased” — but not without also commenting on his chiseled physique.
“This has nothing to do with politics, and he wasn’t joking,” Fox’s resident comedian, 61, declared. “It says absolutely nothing about Donald Trump, but it says too much about [Ritchson].”
“If you look at him, it is really a powerful contrast: a guy that is so physically fit, but spiritually, he’s diseased,” Gutfeld said. “It’s probably likely connected, the obsession is a distraction. He’s not enjoying himself.”
He went on to compare resentment to a poison, saying, “He’s essentially poisoning himself and no amount of squats and bench presses are going to get rid of that.”
The Independent has reached out to Ritchson for comment.
Ritchson has become known as a vocal critic of Trump, despite the fact that his action series on Amazon has a massive conservative fanbase due to its themes of vigilante justice.
The actor, who was promoting his new movie Motor City, said on Armchair Expert that he chooses to stay angry as a way of protesting against the Trump administration.
“I can let go of the resentment and then what does that do for the world? It allows these predatory f***ers to just continue,” he said. “Look at the politics that we deal with right now. The White House is in ruins.”
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said in a comment to the Daily Beast, “Alan Ritchson is a talentless hack who clearly suffers from a severe and incurable disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome that has completely rotted his peanut-sized brain.”
