Staind helped define the sound of popular rock music in the early aughts. The band racked up multiple No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, beginning with Break the Cycle in 2001, while singles such as “It’s Been Awhile” and “So Far Away” remain post-grunge standards.

The group’s enormous success allowed frontman Aaron Lewis to pursue a solo career between Staind eras. Lewis first ventured out on his own with the EP Town Line, followed by The Road in 2012. Since then, his signature sound has straddled the line between country and rock, often veering toward patriotic themes.

For a time, Lewis proved almost as successful as Staind on the charts, but his albums have all landed lower and lower peaks with each recent release. His latest, Give My Country Back, has turned into something of a commercial disappointment — and as it arrives, the set marks an unfortunate first for the singer-songwriter.

Aaron Lewis Misses the Billboard 200 for the First Time

Give My Country Back is Lewis’ sixth solo studio album, and it becomes his first to completely miss the Billboard 200. The ranking measures the most-consumed albums and EPs in the United States via both streams and sales.

Lewis initially enjoyed considerable success on the 200-position roster. Town Line surged to No. 7, while The Road followed with a No. 30 peak. His second full-length, Sinner, brought Lewis to a career peak of No. 4.

Since then, his albums have stalled in progressively lower positions. State I’m In, Frayed at Both Ends and The Hill topped out at Nos. 18, 39 and 175, respectively.

Aaron Lewis Reaches Only One Billboard Chart

Give My Country Back manages to appear on only one Billboard ranking this week. The project debuts at No. 27 on the Top Album Sales chart, which focuses on traditional album purchases.

That arrival point makes Give My Country Back Lewis’ second-lowest-peaking release on the sales tally. Only The Road performed worse, as it debuted and peaked at No. 30 before spending 10 weeks rising and falling on the roster.

Aaron Lewis Misses the Sales Chart’s Top 10

Lewis has now sent seven collections to the Top Album Sales chart, and all but two of his seven entries on the Top Album Sales chart have broken into the top 10. Give My Country Back and The Road are the only projects that failed to reach the highest tier.

Only one Lewis collection has conquered the ranking. Sinner launched at No. 1 just under a decade ago, giving the musician his sole champion on the purchase-focused tally.

Aaron Lewis Scores the Eighth-Highest Debut This Week

Give My Country Back claims the eighth-highest debut on the Top Album Sales chart this week. Lewis trails several new releases, including two that launch inside the top two. Gracie Abrams’ Daughter from Hell and Motionless in White’s Decades arrive at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Lewis also comes in behind new entries by Larry June, Tesla, Steve Lacy, Loathe and the Menzingers.

Even with its relatively low opening point, Give My Country Back outsells new charting collections by Bring Me the Horizon, Rick Ross and several other artists. According to Luminate, Give My Country Back sold a little less than 4,100 copies during its first tracking period. That sum includes digital downloads and purchases of the album on CD and vinyl.
