Suffolk wildfire: Smouldering aftermath captured on camera as blaze continues to spread

Emergency services have shared new footage revealing the scale of devastation already inflicted by a wildfire in Suffolk.

Video released by Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service on Thursday (30 July) shows the smouldering remains of the countryside at Dunwich Heath.

Crews first responded to reports of a wildfire at the nature reserve on Wednesday (29 July) shortly before 5.30pm.

As of late Thursday afternoon, the area affected has grown to 150 hectares – the equivalent of approximately 210 football pitches – with 18 fire engines and more than 100 firefighters at the scene, the fire service said.

The blaze is a few miles away from nuclear power station Sizewell B and the construction site for new power station Sizewell C. It is understood Sizewell B has an emergency plan in place that covers various scenarios, including a fire on site.
