The final of the women’s 1500m T54 will be re-raced on Friday night (AEST) after Australian veteran Eliza Ault-Connell’s successful protest.

Ault-Connell was taken out by Canada’s Nandini Sharma, who was disqualified.

Scotland’s Melanie Woods crossed the line first in the initial race and looms as the rival to beat for Ault-Connell, who at 44 years old is at her fourth Games.

The race saw carnage due to several incidents as multiple athletes were forced to ground or off the track.

Sharma’s disqualification remains in place leaving six of the original seven competitors in this race.

The medals were not due to be presented until yesterday, so no one has to be stripped of their physical medals from the first race.
