Competitive examinations have the potential to transform lives, and young aspirants should begin preparing early to secure government jobs, 2023-batch IPS officer K.L. Suraj said in Mysuru on Friday.

He was inaugurating a KPSC and KEA competitive examination coaching camp organised by the Competitive Examination Training Centre of the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU). Mr. Suraj urged students to start preparing while pursuing their degree courses, saying early understanding of the examination pattern would improve their chances of success.

He advised aspirants to identify career goals, manage time effectively, focus on essential topics, and avoid distractions, stressing that concentration, commitment and sustained hard work were the keys to success.

Senior KAS officer Basavaraju, Managing Director of Karnataka State Minerals Corporation Limited, said only a small fraction of the lakhs of candidates appearing for competitive examinations succeed. He urged students to focus on their studies instead of rumours about question paper leaks or monetary influence, and encouraged them to use artificial intelligence, solve previous years’ question papers, attend mock interviews and build self-confidence.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ravi Prasad observed that many youths from southern Karnataka were lagging behind in competitive examination preparation compared to candidates from north Karnataka.

Retired IAS officer Siddaraju said hard work and dedication never go in vain and expressed confidence that the KSOU coaching programme would benefit aspirants.

Presiding over the programme, KSOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. A.P. Gnanaprakash emphasised the importance of regular writing practice for competitive examinations, particularly the UPSC, and advised students to cultivate the habit of making notes and writing answers consistently.

KSOU Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. Anand Kumar C.S., Dean (Academic) Prof. Ramanatham Naidu, Dean (Study Centre) Anand Gowda, Coordinator Jainahalli Satyanarayana Gowda, Associate Professor of Journalism Dr. Shailesh Raje Urs and others were present.
