Chicago Fire is losing fan interest as yet another cast member departs the show.

The popular NBC firefighter drama, which is scheduled to return for season 15 in October, is reportedly losing Dermot Mulroney after only two years.

Mulroney, 62, who joined the long-running procedural in 2024 as Battalion Chief Dom Pascal, will officially leave the series early in the new season, according to various publications.

No reason has been given for his departure; however, there is speculation that it may be related to his upcoming role in season two of Netflix’s The Hunting Wives.

The Independent has contacted NBC for comment.

Despite his brief time on the show, Mulroney had grown popular among fans, who have since expressed disappointment over news of his departure.

“Oh! No!! This is too much to handle!! I love Dermot! He did a fabulous job! And he fit the role! I guess he’s doing other things, saw his movie, it was pretty good, I’m upset, I really liked him on the show! Now we have to get used to too many new people,” one person wrote on X.

“Wow that’s surprising!” a second reacted, with a third arguing that the “show should just be canceled at this point.”

“What is even happening over there?!” a fourth questioned, as another demanded, “They need to tell us what’s going on with the show and the whole franchise.”

Several applauded Mulroney’s work on the show. He added “such a [grounding] presence to the station,” one praised, followed by a second who thanked him for everything “he brought to the series.”

“With #JoeMinoso also leaving, that firehouse has some serious rebuilding to do,” they added, referencing the recent news that the original Chicago Fire star will also be leaving the show after 14 years.

Miñoso, 47, has played firefighter Joe Cruz since the show’s 2012 debut. He first joined as a guest star in the show’s pilot before being promoted to a series regular at the start of season two. Like Mulroney, he has also appeared on the fellow One Chicago franchise shows Chicago Med and Chicago P.D.

On the show’s Reddit page, a fan similarly lamented the back-to-back casting exits. “First Carver, now Pascal... I understand that in a long-running show, we eventually end up losing some characters and have to accept some kind of rotation because, in the long run, it’s cheaper to hire new actors,” they acknowledged. “But we’re reaching a level where it’s so frustrating. It’s happening too fast. A new character is introduced, and after just a few seasons, once you’ve finally bonded with them, they’re already gone.”

In 2024, Mulroney raved about joining Chicago Fire, telling NBC Insider the experience is “brand new for me.”

“I’m also joining a cast that’s already here. So I’m really the new guy in a brand new experience. I’ve never played a part that will last this long. I’ve never worked on a job for this many months as our filming schedule rolls over into 2025,” the Anyone But You actor said.

“It’s rare for me to work on a character where I don’t already know the storyline... So, I’m having the most amazing time in a new process. [I’ve been acting] a long time — it’s so nice to have a new way to look at creating a role, originating a role.”
