LOOK: Cebu City Gov’t launches Oplan BanTal: Discipline Zone

MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — The Cebu City Government launched “Oplan BanTal: Discipline Zone” on Saturday, August 1, as part of its efforts to promote safer and more orderly roads.

In an advisory, Mayor Nestor Archival said the city will begin the program with an information campaign from August 1 to 5 to familiarize motorists, commuters, and pedestrians with the purpose and guidelines of the discipline zone.

“Karong adlawa, atong gilunsad ang BanTal Discipline Zone isip kabahin sa atong paningkamot nga mahimong mas hapsay ug mas luwas ang atong mga kadalanan,” Archival said.

(Today, we launched the BanTal Discipline Zone as part of our efforts to make our roads more orderly and safer for everyone.)

Oplan BanTal: Discipline Zone

The Oplan BanTal: Discipline Zone will focus on three key areas: motorcycle lanes, PUV stops, and pedestrian safety.

Under the program, motorcycles are required to use only the rightmost lane, which is designated as the motorcycle lane.

Meanwhile, public utility vehicles (PUVs) are only allowed to load and unload passengers at designated PUV stops or lay-bys.

Pedestrians, for their part, are required to cross only at designated crosswalks or pedestrian overpasses (skywalks).

“Ang disiplina sa kadalanan responsibilidad natong tanan. Magtinabangay ta aron masiguro ang mas luwas ug mas organisadong pagbiyahe alang sa tanang Sugboanon diha sa Gov. Cuenco Avenue sa mga Barangay Apas, Banilad, Kasambagan, ug Talamban,” Archival said.

(Discipline on the road is everyone’s responsibility. Let us work together to ensure safer and more organized travel for all Cebuanos along Gov. Cuenco Avenue in Barangays Apas, Banilad, Kasambagan, and Talamban.)

On Saturday, Archival met with personnel of the Cebu City Traffic Office (CCTO) as they began rolling out the BanTal Discipline Zone.
