An industrialist from Guntur, Madala Srinivasa Rao, alleged that 10 persons sent by Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly K. Ragu Ramakrishna Raju attempted to kidnap him from his residence on Friday.

In a complaint lodged with the police, Mr. Srinivasa Rao alleged that the Deputy Speaker's associates had come to his house and insisted that he speak to Mr. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju over the phone. He alleged that during the conversation, the Deputy Speaker threatened to have him kidnapped.

Seeking immediate intervention, Mr. Srinivasa Rao requested police protection stating that his life was under threat. He further said that he had taken over a company belonging to Mr. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju through legal auction.

However, during preliminary inquiry, the police found that the allegations appeared to have arisen from a civil dispute linked to a financial transaction.

Pattabhipuram Circle Inspector G. Venkateswarlu said the complainant alleged that the Deputy Speaker's associates had visited his residence and compelled him to speak over the phone, during which the alleged threat was made.

The police officer said preliminary inquiries indicated that Mr. Srinivasa Rao allegedly owed money to Mr. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju in connection with the acquisition of a company in Tamil Nadu. According to the police, Mr. Srinivasa Rao had reportedly not been responding to the Deputy Speaker's phone calls, following which his associates were sent to meet him at his residence.

The police said the issue was being examined to ascertain the facts and determine whether any criminal offence had been committed.

Retired IPS officer’s charge

Meanwhile, P.V. Sunil Kumar, a retired IPS officer, in a letter to the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday, alleged that the Deputy Speaker was attempting to influence evidence by threatening Mr. Srinivasa Rao after the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) began investigating the alleged financial fraud cases in which Mr. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju was an accused.
