John Terry was booed as he chugged a pint of beer on stage with Luke Combs during his London gig on Friday night.

The former Chelsea footballer, 45, made a surprise appearance with the American country singer, 36, on night one of his three-night residency at Wembley Stadium.

And as he walked out on stage, the sold out crowd could be heard booing John as he hugged Luke and downed the beer in front of the 90,000 fans.

Despite the frosty reception, John and Luke pressed on with the singer's trademark beer-shotgun ritual while boos rang out through the stadium with pockets of Chelsea fans heard cheering the cameo.

After finishing the alcohol, Luke threw his can off the stage while the ex England captain kicked his into the crowd.

The country singer gave the former defender a quick hug before diving back into his single 1, 2 Many with John heading off stage to enjoy the rest of the gig.

John cut a casual figure in a white T-shirt, navy trousers and a flat cap for the surprising appearance.

Fans took to the comments to say the moment was 'awkward' while others joked Luke didn't know about John's 'popularity in the UK'.

They wrote: 'Got booed by the whole of the stadium, quite awkward tbh, both for him and Luke; I didn't know who he was, but he's got booed where I was stood;

'Oh no Luke. This ain’t the one; It didn't go down very well; I guess Luke didn't realise JT's popularity in the UK; Someone sounds popular...'

The footballer has always been a controversial figure, after scandals such as his alleged affair with team-mate Wayne Bridge's wife.

John was also highly visible at the World Cup, with England fans not best pleased with how pally the former player seemed with much-maligned FIFA boss Gianni Infantino.

It comes after John and wife Toni shared the highlights from their family trip to the World Cup with their twins Summer and Georgie.

The family jetted out to America as England competed in the World Cup and were seen spending time exploring New York City and Boston, to soaking up the sun in Miami.

Toni looked incredible in an eye-catching neon green bikini as she posed for a selfie with former footballer John during a boat trip.

John and Toni were all smiles as they went sightseeing in NYC to see the Statue of Liberty with their children, 20, and their partners Sonny and Jasmin.

Elsewhere during the holiday, the family enjoyed a fishing trip, a boxing match and attended a baseball game to see the New York Mets.

She said: 'We had so much fun and made so many wonderful memories in the USA, from Miami to Boston then on to New York.'

The trip comes after John and Toni celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary in June.

The former England footballer gushed his glamorous wife Toni is his 'rock' and 'the love of my life'.

In the social media post, Toni looked incredible in a blue bikini as she lay on shirtless John at the beach while another snap showed the couple cosying up for a selfie with the picturesque ocean backdrop.

Alongside the holiday snaps, John also shared a photo of the couple lying on a bed 19 years ago with Toni wearing her wedding dress and John in his smart linen suit.

He penned: 'Happy Anniversary Mrs T. 19 Years Married to this amazing woman, we enjoy so many good times together and never give up in the bad times, we only get closer.

'You are my rock, my best friend, my greatest supporter, and the love of my life. Happy Anniversary Baby.'
