BENGALURU: A member of the
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Legal Cell has lodged a police complaint with the Cyber Crime Police stating that an Instagram page posted a defamatory and objectionable video targeting the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha,
Rahul Gandhi, and that several users posted abusive and sexually explicit comments on the post.
According to the complaint filed by Siddaraju, he came across the video on July 25 while browsing Instagram.
The video, uploaded on July 16 by the Instagram account ground.reality_india, carried the caption, "Why is the Opposition party so silent?" and contained remarks directed at
Rahul Gandhi.
The complainant stated that the 30-second video used disrespectful, defamatory, obscene, and sexually explicit language against the leader.
The complaint further states that several Instagram users also posted abusive comments beneath the video.
One user allegedly used obscene and sexually derogatory language against Rahul Gandhi, while another posted comments containing vulgar and sexually explicit words, which the complainant claimed were offensive and insulting to the dignity of women.
The complainant alleged that multiple users had posted similar objectionable remarks and sought legal action against both the administrator of the Instagram page and those who allegedly posted abusive comments.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under the Information Technology Act and Section 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace) of the BNS and are investigating.
A senior officer said that measures to delete the video have been taken, and further efforts are underway to trace the administrator of the account.
