Why airlines are finally waking up to context-aware design
Your boarding pass has been sitting in that app for three days. But right now, as you sprint through Terminal 5, it’s the last thing you need.
It’s 6:47 AM. You’re running on three hours of sleep, clutching a coffee that’s somehow both too hot and already lukewarm. Your flight boards in 23 minutes. You’re at the wrong end of the airport. And you pull out your phone, open the airline app, and what do you see?
The same home screen you saw when you booked your ticket three weeks ago.
The same menu. The same promotional banner for a destination you’re not flying to. The same “Explore Our Destinations” button that made sense when you were dreaming about your trip but feels like a cruel joke right now.
You scroll. You tap. You hunt. Where’s my gate? Has it changed? Where’s the bag drop?
The app knows. It has all this information. But it’s making you work for it.
Most airline apps have one thing in common. They’re static. Whether your flight is in 30 days or you’re running to make a connection, you get essentially the same experience.
