WWE SummerSlam 2026 opened with a great match as Liv Morgan beat Iyo Sky for the WWE Women’s World Championship. Morgan capitalized on an Iyo Sky ankle injury to hit an Oblivion after several attempts. Morgan walked into the opening match for SummerSlam Saturday as a slight favorite per Betonline.
The “Trouble” singer won the WWE Women’s World Championship at WrestleMania 42 on April 18, 2026. Morgan’s third world title reign has been clouded by an unfavorable narrative as the “greatest women’s world champion of all time” has not defended the title in over 100 days. This stat manifested itself as a spicy meme after ESPN used it in a lower third.
Liv Morgan herself commented on her lack of title defenses despite spending no less than 1/3 of 2026 as the women’s world champion.
“I’d love to keep my streak going. Like you said, I am 2-0 at SummerSlam. I have a great track record, so I’d love to keep that going," said Morgan on ESPN SportsCenter (h/t NoDQ.com).
“But most importantly, I want to retain my Women’s World Championship. I am over 100 days as champion, and I want to make it 1,000 days as champion. So, retaining this weekend and defeating Io Sky, one of the best in the world, reminding everyone just exactly who I am in that ring. I’m very much looking forward to that opportunity.”
