Schools reopen aftersummer break

Attendance remains thin on first day as many private schools delay classes until August 4

After a two-month summer vacation, government and private schools and colleges across Sindh reopened on Saturday, marking the start of the new academic session. While students returned with enthusiasm, attendance remained low in government schools and many private institutions in Karachi postponed regular classes until August 4.

Educational activities resumed across the province following the end of the summer break, although the first day saw sparse attendance in public schools. A large number of private schools in Karachi also remained closed, with teaching scheduled to begin on Monday.

Students who attended classes arrived early, accompanied by parents or school vans, and were seen reuniting with classmates and teachers as academic activities resumed.

At the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, University Campus, teachers and students welcomed one another and kicked off the new term in a cheerful atmosphere. Students said they had enjoyed their holidays and submitted their vacation assignments on the first day back.

Teachers said the opening day focused on interactive and motivational activities to help students settle back into the classroom. They added that reminders had been sent to parents and students via WhatsApp and email, urging them to ensure regular attendance from Sunday onward.

Under the Sindh Education Department's revised schedule, new school timings came into effect on August 1, alongside the restoration of a six-day academic week. The department had announced summer vacations from June 1 to July 31, with the new academic session formally commencing on Saturday.
