Thousands of devotees on Monday (August 3) gathered at Bhavani Kooduthurai, the confluence of the Bhavani, Cauvery, and the mythical Amudha Gangai rivers, to celebrate Aadi Perukku, observed on the 18th day of the Tamil month of Aadi.

Devotees began arriving in the early hours and took a holy dip at the bathing ghats before offering special prayers for prosperity and good health. Many families performed rituals on the riverbank and offered flowers, fruits and other puja materials to the rivers.

The crowd swelled through the morning, with pilgrims visiting the Sangameswarar Temple after the ritual bath. Police and officials from various departments were deployed to regulate the movement of devotees and ensure the smooth conduct of the celebrations.

The flow in the Cauvery remained low.

Meanwhile, large numbers of devotees also gathered at the bathing ghat near the Magudeswarar Temple in Kodumudi, where they took a holy dip and performed rituals to mark the festival.
