The Lokayukta officials arrested a gram panchayat secretary in Kalaburagi city on Monday for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹9,950 for processing a property transfer application.

The accused, Vedang, secretary of Hagaraga Gram Panchayat in Kalaburagi district, was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe when the Lokayukta officials laid a trap.

According to the complaint filed by Sanjeev, following his maternal uncle Kishan Pawar’s death, he had applied for the transfer of ownership of an open site at Azadpur village, which was under the jurisdiction of the Hagaraga Gram Panchayat.

Though the complainant had submitted the required documents, including the death certificate and stamp papers, to the gram panchayat, the secretary allegedly demanded money to complete the property transfer process, following which a complaint was lodged with the Lokayukta.

Based on the complaint, the officials laid a trap and caught Vedang red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹9,950.
