As part of enhanced security arrangements ahead of Independence Day, Delhi Police has identified at least 14,000 households, shops, and offices located near the route to be used for VIP and other movement during celebrations at Red Fort.
According to senior officials, the data was obtained using the eParikshan app and will be shared with the Special Branch for identification of people with criminal antecedents.
“While other mechanisms such as tenant verifications are continuously done, we have used the application to identify 14,000 households and businesses along the route. Their data was scanned and currently it is being identified whether anyone has any criminal history,” a senior officer said on condition of anonymity.
The officer said the app was used in North district earlier and its usage will be extended to Central district as well after Independence Day.
“The current survey has been done along the route from Tilak Marg to Netaji Subhash Marg for buildings located on both sides of the road,” the officer said.
According to officials, the app is used by Delhi Police internally to verify and digitise premises and occupants. During field visits, police officials use the app to assign a unique Premises Identification Number to each house and record details of residents, tenants, domestic helps or employees.
“It captures information such as the person’s name, date of birth, father’s name, Aadhaar number, mobile number, address, occupation or category of occupant, employer details, photograph and remarks by the verifying officer,” the officer said.
The app also records GPS coordinates of the premises, time and date of verification, and real-time photographs to authenticate the visit. It works offline and synchronises the data once Internet connectivity is available.
“The app was first used in 2024 during Independence Day and is intended to replace paper-based records, streamline tenant and antecedent verification, create a searchable digital database for investigations, and strengthen security and monitoring, particularly during major public events,” the officer said.
