‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ actor Mary Rivera dies at 82

Mary Rivera, the Hawaii-based Filipino actress who portrayed Jacob Batalon’s grandmother in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” died on April 15 after suffering a stroke and falling into coma. She was 82.

Rivera’s passing was confirmed by her family to foreign media outlet TMZ on Tuesday, Aug. 4. According to the news outlet, her family made the difficult decision to remove her from life support after the doctors told them that “her prognosis would not be good” even if she woke from the coma.

Rivera’s family further disclosed that the actress’ remains were later cremated.

Rivera appeared in the third Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film, sharing a scene with Batalon, Zendaya, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. In one scene, she witnesses Garfield and Maguire emerge from the portals made by Batalon. She then speaks in Filipino as she asks the Spider-Man actors to clean up the mess they made in her house.

The actress’ family regards her “Spider-Man: No Way Home” appearance as one of her proudest accomplishments.

Rivera was born on June 2, 1943, in Iloilo. She later settled in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she spent her final years. /ra
