MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday urged Congress to authorize and fund a separate compensation scheme for public school teachers serving as tutors under the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (Aral) Program. “DepEd’s position is clear: we want to support and recognize the additional work our teachers are doing under the Aral Program,” said Education Secretary Sonny Angara in a statement. “But we must also comply with the law and work within the budget allocated to us.
