The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday (August 4, 2026) upgraded the orange alert issued for the day to red alert, warning of extreme heavy rainfall, for eight districts during the next 24 hours.
As per the revised rain alert, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts are on red alert where rainfall over 204 mm is likely during the next 24 hours, while orange alert warning of intense rainfall has been retained for Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur and Alappuzha for the day.
A yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, where isolated heavy is expected.
