Inside a firefighter’s cab on the front lines of Washington’s raging wildfires

Point-of-view video filmed inside a fire engine's cab shows the view of the front lines of the raging Washington wildfires.

Footage released by the Spokane Valley Fire Department showed flames engulfing a tree and thick smoke billowing around the vehicle as it drove through a blaze.

According to city officials, the wildfires have destroyed at least 700 buildings and forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes.

The Spokane-area cluster of three blazes is ranked as the top firefighting priority in the US as a whole. They have burned at least 8,000 acres since breaking out on Saturday (1 August) on the northern fringe of the city.

Approximately 64,000 people were under immediate evacuation orders on Monday, up from 4,000 a day earlier, according to an incident command center spokesperson.
