Coleen Rooney has spoken out about 'low periods' with her husband Wayne and how she wishes he would be 'more proactive' since retiring.

The I'm A Celeb star, 40, has suffered public woes with a slew of cheating scandals, however she admitted in a chat with Grazia that they have had highs and lows and as well as being husband and wife, they are also 'friends'.

The couple tied the knot in a lavish Italian wedding back in June 2008 and have since welcomed four sons Kai, 16, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and Cass, eight.

She said: 'He’s doing his thing, I’m doing mine. I think people are too quick to jump [out of a relationship]. They’re too quick to call it a day...

'Sometimes, you’ve just got to work at it. If it’s not gonna work, it’s not gonna work. But if it is, just work at it to get back to where you were. It’s not a young relationship, it’s a marriage.’

Wayne and Coleen haven't had the smoothest of marriages after she has had to endure several high-profile alleged cheating scandals - with the footballer making national headlines when he was found to have visited three prostitutes as a teenager.

In 2004 after Wayne, then aged 18, moved to Manchester United, it was discovered that the teenager allegedly paid £140 for sex with prostitute Charlotte Glover, 21.

It was also claimed that at a brothel in Liverpool he slept with Gina McCarrick, then 37, and grandmother Patricia Tierney, then 48.

Devastated Coleen stood by her man but didn't comment publicly on the claims.

Speaking in a 2023 Amazon Prime documentary on her husband's life and football career, Coleen also candidly discussed her husband's cheating.

She credited her parents Colette and Tony for their support, as she admits part of the reason she chose to stay in her marriage during Wayne's various cheating and drinking scandals was for their children.

They have been a couple since their teenage years

After playing for Everton, Manchester United, DC United and Derby County as well as his appearances for England, Wayne retired in 2021. He now works in punditry (pictured in April)

'When you're making those decisions you've got to focus on what you want and not other people because you have so many people saying different things to you. "Oh why is she getting back with him?"

'Obviously I listen to the people that matter to me, my mum and dad always give me a positive outlook on things. There's nothing that we can't deal with and that's my way in a situation - let's sit down and see what we can do and can we make it work?...

'And we have. We're not the lovey-dovey type anyway, we like to have a laugh and we work well together.'

On his move from life as a footballer to a retiree, she said: 'Sometimes I think, “Come on Wayne, pull your finger out!” but he came out of a structured environment since he was a kid, it’s hard to navigate which way you’re gonna go.’
