EVgo is expanding its partnership with Brixmor Property Group to install more than 500 new DC fast charging stalls in the parking lots of shopping centres across the United States. The deal will bring EVgo’s 350 kW chargers to at least 90 Brixmor properties, covering more than a quarter of the real estate developer’s portfolio.
New locations will span six states: Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Deployment begins later this year, with the first site expected to go live at Barn Plaza, a shopping centre in the Philadelphia suburbs.
Each site will have up to 12 EVgo chargers, and each unit can share power between two connectors, allowing two vehicles to charge simultaneously. Brixmor’s shopping centres are primarily anchored by grocery stores, which makes them a natural fit for fast charging since a typical session takes roughly the same amount of time as a grocery run.
The two companies are not new partners. EVgo installed its first charger at a Brixmor property in Pleasanton, California, back in 2016, making this an expansion of a relationship that is now a decade old.
EVgo currently operates more than 5,000 individual DC fast charging ports at roughly 1,200 locations across the country, according to the Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center. The company has also deployed chargers through partnerships with General Motors and Pilot Company, which together account for hundreds of stations at truck stops and travel centres in nearly 40 states.
The shopping centre strategy reflects a broader shift in how charging networks think about location. Rather than building standalone stations that drivers must seek out, operators are embedding chargers in places where EV owners already spend their time. Brixmor says its properties welcome more than 900 million consumer visits a year, giving EVgo access to foot traffic that most dedicated charging hubs cannot match.
The expansion comes as the US fast charging network enters a more stable phase after years of uneven growth. Charger reliability has climbed above 90 percent nationally, and high-power units rated at 250 kW or above now account for most new installations. Not every state has embraced the buildout equally, but private operators like EVgo have continued to expand regardless of shifting federal and state priorities.
“Drivers across the US want infrastructure options that integrate seamlessly into their routines, and shopping centres are an ideal place to get groceries, grab a bite, or shop while charging,” said Scott Levitan, Executive Vice President of Growth at EVgo.
