The X-Files, starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, now has a LEGO building set to investigate whether the truth is out there.

The X-Files, of course, is the classic FOX Television sci-fi series that pairs FBI agents Mulder (Duchovny) and Scully (Anderson ) to investigate cases involving the paranormal. Created by Chris Carter, the series originally ran on FOX for nine seasons from 1993 to 2001 and returned on Hulu for two more seasons in 2016 and 2018. The series also leaped to the big screen in 1998’s The X-Files and 2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

Now, 33 years after the debut of The X-Files, LEGO has released a 1,478-piece The X-Files — The Truth is Out There building set based on the original TV series. According to the brick toymaker, The X-Files set is based on a LEGO Ideas fan submission by Brisbane, Australia-based 3D artist and fan designer Brent Waller. The X-Files set — in brick form, of course — recreates Mulder’s office in details and a forest scene with a UFO hovering above.

The set’s eight minifigures include Mulder, Scully, Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), Carl Busch (aka the Cigarette Smoking Man – William B. Davis), Mr. X (Steven Williams), Alex Krycek (Nicholas Lea), The Flukeman (Darin Morgan) and a grey alien.

The X-Files LEGO set is available Tuesday on LEGO’s retail site and retails for $199.99. A promotional gift — LEGO Ideas The X-Files: Scully’s Lab — will come with purchases of the The X-Files — The Truth is Out There building set through Aug. 10. The Scully’s Lab set recreates Scully’s classroom lab at the FBI National Academy and includes a minifigure of Anderson’s character in her lab coat and scrubs.

Part of the promotion leading up to the release of LEGO Ideas’ The X-Files — The Truth is Out There building set was a promotional video featuring Gillian Anderson in character as Agent Dana Scully examining the new release.

“I didn’t expect to be stepping back into Scully’s heels to investigate a LEGO set … it has been so much fun revisiting that world all these years later,” Anderson said in a statement from LEGO. “This set is a wonderful celebration of The X-Files, and the fans who have kept its mystery alive. The level of detail is brilliant — there are so many little nods that fans will absolutely recognize — and as a LEGO fan myself, I love that people can now quite literally build their own X-Files moments at home.”

For Brent Waller, the creation of his LEGO Ideas submission began a dozen years ago. After fans submit their creations to LEGO Ideas, the sets are voted on by the LEGO community before they are considered by the company to become official sets.

“I was obsessed with The X-Files from the moment I first saw it in the ’90s. I originally built Mulder’s office back in 2014 while rewatching the series, and it grew from there as a personal project,” Waller said in a statement from LEGO. “I wanted to combine nostalgia, detail and storytelling to capture the atmosphere of the show — from Mulder’s office to the forest and UFO encounter. I’m thrilled to see it become an official LEGO set and hope it resonates with both long-time fans and new audiences.”
