One person is in a critical condition, one in a serious condition, one in a moderate condition and two others were treated at the scene, St John said.

Three people were taken by ambulance to Auckland City Hospital.

“There are cordons in place on Manukau Rd between Ranfurly Rd and Queen Mary Ave,” said a police spokesperson.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area while enquiries are ongoing.”

Police will be releasing further information shortly.

Those on buses heading into the city and caught up in today’s incident were told by drivers they would be diverting off route while they navigated around the cordons.

Four police cars, three ambulances and a fire engine could be seen stationed on the road near Cornwall Park.

A person on a bus travelling down Manukau Rd said they were diverted around the scene.
