Congress cadre on Wednesday staged demonstrations in Tiruchi and Pudukottai condemning the BJP-led NDA government for detaining Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, who were protesting against the NEET paper leak in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The protesters demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for the alleged irregularities on NEET issue.

Police sources said a group of Congress members holding party flags and led by party’s Tiruchi urban district president Rex staged a demonstration near the Rajiv Gandhi statue close to Khadi Kraft.

In Pudukottai town, a group of Congress members assembled near Gandhi Park and staged a demonstration condemning the Central government.

Meanwhile, Tiruchi City Police arrested a few Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Students Federation of India (SFI) members after they resorted to a road roko agitation in the city condemning the lathi charge by the police on Cockroach Janta Party protesters in New Delhi.

A group of 10 DYFI members led by its district president Sethupathy assembled near the Head Post Office in the morning and staged a road roko stir before being arrested. They demanded the resignation of Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan and the repeal of NEET.

The sources said six SFI members assembled near the Head Post Office in the evening where they staged in a road roko stir making the same demands before being arrested.
