FC Barcelona expects an offer to come in from Paris Saint-Germain for Ferran Torres this week according to SPORT. At Mundo Deportivo, Fernando Polo reports that the club believes the striker is using the interest from the Champions League holders to earn a bigger contract.

Ferran has angered Barça by using American media appearances to speak about his situation.

“Right now I have a contract with Barcelona,” Torres said on the Today show. “But, honestly, in football you never know what can happen.”

"I’m waiting to make the right decision. I still don’t know. Yes, I have a dream club. I just want to be happy,” he further added.

Then on CNN, Ferran said: “Right now the only thing I know is that on August 12 I have to be there and train with them, so we’ll see what happens,” as per reporting for preseason camp under head coach Hansi Flick.

“You never know because in football everything can change in a minute, so I have to be prepared for everything.”

FC Barcelona has its stance on Ferran clear

According to SPORT, Barça won’t let their only senior striker - after Robert Lewandowski left for the Chicago Fire - join PSG without receiving a considerable fee for his services.

The club is willing to let him leave for free after June 30 next year, when his contract expires, if PSG’s offer doesn’t meet their valuation of a player it paid Manchester City $63 million (€55 million) to acquire in late 2021.

That same logic will apply if Ferran asks for too much money in transfer renewal talks, which should come once he reports for preseason camp.

Barça can’t have Ferran sign on the dotted line until September owing to Financial Fair Play (FFP) issues, but neither the club nor the manager sees him as anything more than a squad player while the pursuit of Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez continues.

Ferran has played as Mikel Oyarzabal’s understudy in the national team too, to great success.

At Mundo Deportivo, Fernando Polo explains that if Ferran wants to leave, he must personally put in a transfer request and have the interested party - i.e. PSG - submit an official offer.

SPORT thinks that will arrive this week. But until it does, some behind the scenes at the Spotify Camp Nou think Ferran is using his current popularity as the scorer of Spain’s World Cup-wining goal to secure a more lucrative renewal with his current employers.

Many FC Barcelona fans are losing their patience. There’s a growing consensus that if a reasonable offer of around $50 million comes in for Ferran, it’s time to cut ties with a player that is publicly flirting with the prospect of jumping ship.
