Minister for Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader on Wednesday instructed officials that the relief amount should be sanctioned immediately to the victims of natural disasters including landslides and rain damage.

He spoke at a meeting held at the Taluk Panchayat Hall in Belthangady after visiting various rain-damaged areas in Belthangady taluk.

Mr. Khader said that compensation should be sanctioned as per government rules for incidents of house collapse and loss of life due to rain. Emergency relief should also be sanctioned to the victims of cases where water entered their houses. Delay in this matter will not be tolerated, the Minister said.

Mr. Khader, also in-charge Minister of Dakshina Kannada, instructed that the Forest Department, Mescom and local panchayats should work in coordination to avoid any mishaps and instructed them to be fully prepared during the rainy season. They should be available to serve the public round-the-clock. The control room should always be in a ready state, the Minister said.

The highway work is ongoing from Poonjalakatte to Charmadi in Belthangady taluk, and there have been widespread complaints from the public about flooding in places. He said that these highway problems should be listed and addressed step-by-step.

The Minister said that the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments should quickly sanction crop insurance to farmers.

The Public Works Department officials told the meeting that ₹12 crore has been approved for the development of Guruvayankare-Uppinangady Road and the work would start soon.
