Halo Studios, the developer behind the recent Halo: Campaign Evolved release (which we consider to be one of the best remakes of all time), is laying off members of the team.

First reported on by Insider Gaming, several employees have taken to LinkedIn to communicate that their role has been impacted, including Nick Treitman, a producer on Campaign Evolved and the "product owner of Halo Infinite's social multiplayer pillar," according to his post. "After 6.5 years working on Halo and dodging just as many rounds of layoffs — it has finally caught up to me," Treitman wrote. "I have nothing but love for Halo and the folks at the studio, this is just a tough reality in the gaming industry right now."

Paul Morris, a scrum master at the studio who had been there for over two years, has also been let go. "Today, I learned my time at Halo Studios will be coming to an end following the successful launch of our latest game, Halo: Campaign Evolved," reads his LinkedIn post. "I know this is one of the most challenging job markets our industry has seen, and I know the road ahead won’t be easy." Additionally, while he hasn't made a post announcing it, Caleb Lawrence, a software engineer on Campaign Evolved, has made himself "available for work" on LinkedIn.

While not completely unanimous, these layoffs come after Campaign Evolved was pretty widely praised by critics, such as VGC giving it a 10/10 score and saying that the remake gives "reason to be optimistic that the series' best days are still ahead." Meanwhile, Game Informer's 8.5/10 score considers it to be a "superb update and rebuild of what made the original great."

It was only last month that Xbox announced it would be laying off over 3,200 employees across all of its studios, taking place gradually over the following year until July 2027. Whether there are more Halo Studios layoffs to come is still to be determined. However, since a remake of Halo 2 (and likely Halo 3, too) has been all but confirmed, it doesn't seem like Xbox is changing its plan to continue remaking the older games in the series.
