The ongoing construction of a 60-tonne capacity modern whole milk powder manufacturing plant at Padalur in Perambalur district is expected to be completed by the year-end. Nearly 75% of the civil works of the multi-storeyed structure have been completed so far under this project being executed at a cost of ₹150 crore funded by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
The modern plant is constructed by the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Ltd., Chennai. Official sources said nearly 95% of advanced machinery required for the day-to-day operation of the plant had already been received. This includes storage tanks, powder dryer, boilers, packing machines, and other electrical equipment. The official said machinery had been supplied from Pune and they would be installed in a step-by-step manner at the plant.
The five-storeyed plant is coming up on 10,376.60 square metres of land with construction work up to the fourth floor having been completed so far. The complete civil works are expected to be fully over by this year-end, the official said. The machinery would be installed in a phased manner as and when the work get over.
The plant would manufacture 60 tonnes of whole milk powder every day once it gets commissioned. This would be the largest whole milk powder plant constructed by the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Ltd. in Tamil Nadu with advanced machinery, the official said. Perambalur Collector Sharanya Ari inspected the pace of the ongoing construction works at the plant recently and ascertained from the officials the progress made so far.
