General Hospital is reportedly bidding farewell to yet another actor, after already losing three in recent weeks.
ABC’s long-running soap opera, about the bustling lives of citizens in the fictional upstate New York town of Port Charles, recently said goodbye to Bradford Anderson as Damian Spinelli, Kirsten Storms as Maxie Jones and Nathan Dean as Ethan Lovett.
Now, according to Soap Opera Network, the show will permanently lose Chris L. McKenna as Jack Brennan, with the character set to be killed off in the fall. No other details about the reason for his exit are known.
The Independent has contacted ABC for comment.
McKenna, 48, first joined General Hospital in February 2025, taking over for Charles Mesure, who originated the role of Brennan, the World Security Bureau Chief, in December 2023. Mesure’s departure came just as Brennan’s romance with Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) was intensifying.
Addressing his surprise replacement of Mesure at the time, McKenna told Soap Opera Network: “I know it was jarring to the fans, the timing of the way I came in here, but Laura and I have known each other for decades and it was a really, really special thing as soon as we started working together.
“The first thing we had to shoot was the Valentine’s Day episode and we immediately had to go right into the heavy romance. That could have been a challenge, but it was so much fun and she made it great.”
Months after his introduction, McKenna confirmed to fans that he had signed a contract with the show. “The overwhelming support from you beautiful people helped make it happen,” he wrote on X in August 2025. “Appreciate you all so much. I’d love to give a big old (CLASSIFIED) kiss to each one of you!”
The news of McKenna’s departure comes weeks after the shocking exit of Dean, also known as Nathan Parsons. Dean originated the character of Lovett back in 2009 and played the role until 2012. He returned to play Lovett on several occasions since, and the character has also been portrayed by James Ryan.
On April 17, 2026, Dean returned to the role on a full-time basis. However, during an episode broadcast Monday, July 27, a voiceover announced: “The role of Ethan Lovett is now being played by Christian Howard.”
General Hospital first debuted in 1963. It is currently airing its 63rd season. A premiere date for season 64 has not yet been announced, though executive producer Frank Valentini teased on X in April: “We have big plans going into this new season. Stay tuned.”
