Let's get Thursday Screencaps rolling with a few hot topics that have popped up this week, including more on the life of modern college students. So many of you are preparing to send off your kids. Let's talk about it. What are you seeing? What are you experiencing?

Topics to address this morning from my text group. They're fascinated by this week's dorm talk:

  • What are some of the amenities available today to dorm residents that would blow our minds? Are there hot tubs in these dorms? Indoor pools?

  • Tell us what your kids are eating in these school cafeterias. Canoe Kirk works for the University of Michigan and says he ended up at a cafeteria a couple of years ago that was a "fancy version of Golden Corral."

  • Are there prime rib nights at these cafeterias? Surf and turf nights? Peel & eat shrimp?
  • Are parents paying for maid service for their kid's dorm room? Is it even available?

We need more stories. Show us where this world is going.

Madison Beer can't stop petting fiancé Justin Herbert

I thought this video was going to be fine until Beer starts wiping off Herbert's arm. Guys, I'm telling you, keep your eyes on this developing storyline. She's very worried about Justin and if he has sweat and grass on his arm as we're about to embark on a grueling 17-game pressure cooker.

Hey Disney, I hope you go bankrupt

I heard this Christmas jingle out of my left ear as I was scrolling Instagram on my work computer and damn near threw my personal computer through the backdoor. A Disney World Christmas commercial on ABC. I am absolutely sick to my stomach over what Disney is pushing on weak suburban parents. Absolutely disgusting. Respect summer, please.

Guys, DO NOT LET YOUR WIVES FALL VICTIM TO THIS RAT POISON.

Why are parents 'required' to send two boxes of tissues to school per child?

I have to get this off my chest. Mrs. Screencaps has bombarded me this week with news of all the things he has to send to school in order for our kids to be allowed into the building next week when school starts even though we're current with our property taxes.

The one thing on the list that caught me off-guard was the two boxes of tissues requirement. Why can't the school just budget for two boxes of tissues per kid? Let's say there are 500 kids in Screencaps Jr.'s class. So we're talking about 1000 boxes of tissues.

Google Gemini says that would run about $1,800 with FREE delivery for an order of that size.

Instead of budgeting for $1,800 in tissues, the school insists on agitating parents all summer over crap like this. It drives me absolutely insane. I'm not blaming the teachers. I know many of you have stories to share of this world you're working in.

Between the number of emails we get from the schools that cause tons of stress for Mrs. Screencaps, to the newsletters we're supposed to read so we're not bad parents, to the list of items we're supposed to provide, the school systems have burned us out. I get it, the minute they don't communicate is the minute some parent screams that the school isn't being transparent.

Can we all agree to start with small steps and have the school pony up the $1,800 (per class) out of its budget for the tissues? Is that too hard? I'd even consider throwing a community golf outing to raise money for the tissues.

This is the ESPN mindset. There's no nuance to this take when there should be

I know many of you like Ryan McGee because he's a NASCAR guy with a thick southern accent and is buddies with fake accent guy Marty Smith (don't even bother arguing; Marty plays up the accent and the golly shucks thing like Herbstreit playing up how much he loves his dogs; ESPN sideshows are ridiculous).

This take from McGee is just dumb. We've been over this many, many times in this column. There are parking lot behaviors that grown men should observe.

  • You should be pulling through spots when available
  • You should be backing into spots when appropriate, which means you should be finding a strategic spot against a curb where backing in provides the least stress possible
  • There's no problem making someone wait for a five-point turn as long as you couldn't go 100 feet and park in a less-stressful environment
  • Can you do a five-point turn in one try? Back into spots all you want.
  • You should never be backing into the Costco spots up against the hydrangeas they plant up against their buildings. That's just dumb unless you're running into get a case of Busch Light that you're going to throw into the cab.

And with that, you guys should have enough to digest and opine on. Fire up the emails and let me know what's going on in your world and how you're respecting summer. I have a few emails that have piled up that I need to dump out. Some of the reports are like 1,500 words so that's going to take some time out of me to get those ready for Friday Screencaps.

Let's go get after it and have another big day of life.
