The YSRCP on Thursday organised relay hunger strikes across the State, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the DSC-2025 teacher recruitment process and the resignation of HRD Minister Nara Lokesh.

The protest in Vijayawada turned tense after workers of the TDP and YSRCP clashed at Muthyalampadu.

The protest, led by former MLA Malladi Vishnu, was part of the YSRCP’s three-day State-wide agitation. Tension escalated after the TDP leaders, led by Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, reached the venue and objected to the protest, alleging that it had been organised without official permission. Heated arguments between the two groups soon developed into scuffles, prompting police intervention.

The YSRCP alleged that TDP workers dismantled the protest camp and attacked party workers, while the TDP accused YSRCP activists of making objectionable remarks against Mr. Lokesh. Police subsequently took Mr. Vishnu into preventive custody and dispersed the protesters.

Meanwhile, relay hunger strikes were staged in Visakhapatnam, Anantapur, Nellore, Tirupati and several other parts of the State. YSRCP leaders alleged that changes in government orders, recruitment procedures and implementation of the sports quota had adversely affected eligible candidates.

Later, the YSRCP submitted a representation to the DGP, alleging attacks on party workers and obstruction of its protests by the police and TDP activists in several districts.

According to the memorandum, the party alleged that in Vijayawada the protesters were attacked and the hunger strike camp was dismantled. It also referred to similar incidents at Chilakaluripet, Kanigiri, Tadipatri, Palamaner, Repalle, Guntur, Ponnur, Vemuru, Macherla, Gurazala, Kandukur and Bapatla.

The party urged the DGP to register criminal cases against those involved in the alleged attacks, initiate an inquiry into the conduct of police personnel and ensure protection for its leaders and cadres during the remaining days of the agitation.
