Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi on Friday (August 7) visited Kakkaragol village in Karatagi taluk to console the family members of three persons who lost their lives in the recent landslide at Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district.
The Minister handed over documents confirming the release of ₹15 lakh as disaster relief compensation sanctioned by the tahsildar, Shivamogga, under the Disaster Management Fund. The amount has been equally distributed between the deceased couple’s two daughters, Divya and Mahalakshmi, with ₹7.5 lakh each credited directly to their respective bank accounts.
The compensation receipts were handed over to the children in the presence of their grandmother Gouramma.
Mr. Tangadagi assured the family of all possible assistance for the children’s education. Divya, 7, is studying in class 1, while Mahalakshmi, 9, is a class 3 student.
The Minister said that if the family agreed, both girls could be admitted to a government residential children’s home where all educational facilities would be provided. If the family preferred to keep the children at home, the government would arrange financial assistance of ₹4,000 per month for each child for three years under a sponsorship programme.
Mr. Tangadagi also promised that steps would be taken through the gram panchayat to provide a house to the bereaved family.
The Minister later met Hanumanth, son of Fakirappa of Kakkaragol, and Amruth, wife of Ramanna of Mukkunda village, who sustained serious injuries in the Thirthahalli landslide.
He said directions had already been issued to the Deputy Commissioner to ensure that the injured persons receive reimbursement of medical expenses and other relief admissible under the rules.
The landslide at Indira Nagar in Thirthahalli taluk had claimed the lives of three members of the same family from Kakkaragol village.
Deputy Commissioner Suresh B. Itnal, Zilla Panchayat CEO Varnit Negi, Karatagi tahsildar Kumaraswamy, Executive Officer Lakshmidevi Yadav, District Child Protection Officer Sindhu Angadi (Yaligar), other officials, public representatives, family members of the deceased and villagers were present.
