A two-month-long awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS will be launched across Annamayya district from August 12 to mark International Youth Day.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday, District AIDS Control Officer Dr. G. Radhika said the campaign would target high-risk villages, zones of educational institutions, and other vulnerable locations. Officials from line departments and NGOs would work in coordination to raise awareness. An action plan had been developed during the monthly review meeting with the medical and paramedical staff.

Dr. Radhika said that ahead of the campaign, a review of the work schedules of Integrated Testing and Counselling Centres (ICTC) counsellors, ART centres, and NGOs had been completed, and the concerned officials were directed to ensure uninterrupted HIV testing, counselling, and medicine supply at health centres. “Effective implementation of AIDS prevention measures under the Mission AIDS Suraksha programme is our priority,” the AIDS Control Officer said.

She further urged private hospitals to strictly follow government guidelines and ensure timely HIV testing and medical services, particularly for pregnant women.
