MANILA, Philippines — The PCSO Chorale has been tapped to perform the Philippine national anthem during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (Sona) next week, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Tuesday.

Radio Television Malacañang will direct the program, she added.

Asked whether there had been an effort to make the Sona, set for July 27, more austere, Castro said that had been the plan from the start.

“That has always been the plan, and it is also what the President wants,” she said at a press briefing, adding there will be no celebrity performer in the event.

The PCSO Chorale is the official vocal ensemble of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, composed entirely of regular employees from the agency.

Established in 1998, the group was revitalized in September 2023 under the leadership of General Manager Melquiades Robles and Choir Conductor Robert Delgado. /dl
