MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday awarded a total of P9.725 million in monetary rewards to confidential informants whose tips led to the arrest of 21 wanted persons across the country.

The rewards were presented during a ceremony at Camp Crame in Quezon City, with the informants wearing black clothing and face coverings to conceal their identities.

According to an information sheet by the PNP, the rewards included:

  • P2.995 million for the arrest of seven persons wanted for murder;
  • P840,000 for the arrest of six persons wanted for rape;
  • P1.35 million for the arrest of two persons wanted for syndicated estafa;
  • P245,000 for the arrest of two persons wanted for violation of Republic Act No. 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act;
  • P765,000 for the arrest of a person wanted for violation of RA No. 9516, which pertains to the illegal trade of explosives, and RA No. 10591 or the Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act; and
  • P250,000 for the arrest of a person wanted for robbery with multiple homicide

The PNP explained that the reward for the arrest of 19 wanted persons came through a Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) memorandum circular.

Meanwhile, a joint order issued by the Department of National Defense (DND) and the DILG authorized a P2.83-million reward for information leading to the arrest of two other suspects, who were allegedly members of a communist terrorist group and are wanted for murder.

“This will greatly help our organization,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in an interview following the turnover ceremony.

“We’re helping each other to account for and arrest all our fugitives. There are 500,000 people, if I’m not mistaken, who are covered by a warrant of arrest and we will go after them one-by-one.”/dp
