The autobiography ‘Broken Family’, authored by K. B. Nethravathi, was released on Sunday at the Indian Institute of Educational Theatre in Hardwicke School premises on JLB Road. The programme was organised by Bevara Hani Prakashana.

Inaugurating the programme and releasing the book, R. Santhosh Nayak, Director of Prasaranga, Karnataka State Open University, said, “K. B. Nethravathi’s autobiography ‘Broken Family’ is not merely a record of pain and pleasure. Instead, it is a work that questions the structure of Indian society, inequality, and the caste system.”

“We study the concept of family in sociology. Human family and the social structure have played a pivotal role in the evolution of civilisation. However, the title ‘Broken Family’ itself raises several questions. Though concise in volume, the ideas contained in this work are serious. Encompassing multiple dimensions, this book needs to be read in its social context,” he added.

“The world runs on stories. It is impossible to imagine a world without stories. If we look beyond stories, the entire social structure changes. But whose stories have we been listening to in India? Who has had the opportunity to tell their stories? For two or three generations, the stories of many communities remained unwritten in text and survived only orally. In particular, many folk stories told by women are yet to be documented,” he stated.

S. D. Shashikala, Head of the Department of Jainology at the University of Mysore, presided over the function. The author, K. B. Nethravathi, was present and shared her life experiences.

On the occasion, young writer Keerthi S. Byndoor and makeup artist Saritha C.V. provided readers’ perspectives on the book. Literary enthusiasts and members of the public attended the event.
