A 20-year-old has been charged with murder after a man was found stabbed to death in a West Midlands town.

Stephen Clarke, 32, was attacked in the early hours of Saturday morning in Chester Road, Sutton Coldfield, north of Birmingham.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, West Midlands Police said.

Joseph Cargill, 20, has been charged with murder, the force confirmed.

He was remanded in custody and will appear before a magistrates court in Birmingham on Monday.

Police urged anyone who had any information or was in the area at the time to come forward.

The force had previously said they were currently not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and it was thought the suspect and victim were known to each other.

'Our investigation into the incident continues and we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time,' a spokesman for West Midlands Police said.

'Mr Clarke’s family have requested their privacy be respected at this time.'
