Stating that votes were being stolen in the country, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Sunday (August 9) said that a ‘Quit Vote Chori’ movement should be started on the lines of the Quit India movement.

Appealing to party workers to set aside all their work and fight against vote theft, the Chief Minister said that efforts were being made to delete one crore voters in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). “You have to protect your votes. We are giving guarantee schemes and without voting rights, the scheme benefits will not be provided,” he said at an event to mark the Quit India Movement, organised by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee here. “Protecting your vote will help make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister of the country,” he added.

Calling himself a party worker despite being the Chief Minister, he said that power is temporary and there will be a government only if there is a party.

Mr. Shivakumar said that the registration booths for membership to Bharath Jodo Youth Sangha would be set up at all gram panchayats and commence from this month. “₹10 will be collected as membership fee and those in the 16-40 age group will be eligible to become members,” he said.
