According to Ukrinform, El País reported the incident.

Due to the threat posed by the fire, emergency services evacuated 467 people.

Authorities organized periodic controlled access to the affected settlements so that residents could collect essential belongings and feed their animals.

Of those evacuated, 283 were residents of Berrocal, a town that was at the epicenter of one of the largest wildfires in Spain’s history, which devastated 34,000 hectares in 2004, 22 years ago.

Francisco Toscano, a representative of the Spanish central government in Andalusia, said that the previous night had been somewhat more favorable for firefighting efforts than the nights before. Aircraft were deployed to help fight the fire in the morning.

Of the 8,000 hectares affected by the flames, many areas remain unburned, so the final assessment of the damage will depend on the extent of the area identified by the Copernicus satellite program.

Andalusia’s Minister of Health and Emergency Situations, Antonio Sanz, added that the night had been difficult and that not all planned operations could be carried out because of the danger, particularly in the northwestern area, which led to the suspension of controlled burning operations.

As Ukrinform reported, recent wildfires in France, Spain and Portugal have already destroyed more than 17,000 hectares of land amid a prolonged heatwave in the region.
