The Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC) will sell tea and coffee sourced from its plantations under the brand name ‘Athma’. The new products will hit the market in September, KFDC Mananthavady Divisional Manager Sajeer K.V. said in a press release.
The products will be marketed under KFDC’s existing Vanopahar brand. Forest Minister Shibu Baby John had invited suggestions from the public through social media to name the new brand. The brand name was finalised after consultations with experts.
Although KFDC has been selling unblended coffee powder, this will be the corporation’s first entry into the tea market. Athma will feature tea produced at KFDC’s own plantation in Mananthavady and coffee grown at KFDC’s plantations in Nelliyampathy, Munnar and Gavi.
