TACLOBAN CITY CITY — A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck near Maydolong, Eastern Samar early Monday, Aug. 10. The tremor was felt in varying intensities in parts of Eastern Samar, Samar, Northern Samar and Leyte, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The earthquake occurred at 1:05 a.m. at a depth of 34 kilometers, with the epicenter located about 2 km south, 87 degrees west of Maydolong, Phivolcs said in its first earthquake information bulletin.
