The UK's 10 most popular coffee shops have been unveiled - and not one is in the capital.

From flat whites to cappuccinos and lattes, the nation is positively hooked on caffeine - and while some favour purchasing their morning java from a chain store, many prefer to support independent businesses.

And the 10 most popular are dotted up and down the country, from Bath to Manchester and Cardiff - but there's been no such luck for independent roasters in London this year, which have missed out on the top rankings.

Scooping the top spot was Neighbourhood Café in Belfast, a self-proclaimed 'warm' joint serving innovative takes on brunch classics, including Breakfast Tacos and Whipped Avo Toast, alongside a classic coffee selection.

To find out the most in-demand coffee shop, Capital on Tap analysed over 100 independent coffee shops across the UK, ranking them using a combination of Google review ratings, review volumes, average monthly Google search volumes, and Instagram followers.

The Neighbourhood Café stands out for its strong online presence, Capital on Tap found, with around 27,100 average monthly Google searches, one of the highest in the rankings, alongside 45,500 Instagram followers and a 4.6-star Google rating.

Customers have described the café as a 'must-visit' in Belfast, remarking on its relaxed atmosphere, standout breakfast menu and speciality drinks.

In second place was Bath's 'coffee enthusiast's paradise', according to reviewers - Colonna & Small, which boasts a 4.7-star Google rating, 38,100 Instagram followers and 12,100 average monthly Google searches.

The destination coffee shop has 'won numerous awards and gained international recognition for its innovative concept and focus on quality,' according to its website, and aims to 'shift the focus from the format of the drink to the origin of the coffee and the customer's tasting experience.'

Belfast saw two of its coffee shops in the top three, with Established Coffee, which also offers bean subscription services, claiming bronze.

The joint also serves food, with dishes including £10 French Onion Shortrib on Toast and White Chocolate French Toast for the same price.

Established Coffee has a 4.6-star Google rating, 12,100 average monthly Google searches and 36,500 Instagram followers.

Customers raved about its friendly service and beautifully presented coffee and pastries, with several reviewers claiming its lemon meringue pie is one of the best they've tasted.

Other stores to make the cut included Idle Hands in Manchester, which has a roasting brew bar featuring filter coffees from roasters around the globe, and Rough Handmade, Liverpool, which describes itself as 'basic products everyone can relate to without fancy frills.'

It comes after experts at Which? judged supermarket coffee beans to reveal which ones taste best.

Their extensive blind test included tasting ground coffee from well-known pricier brands such as Cafédirect and Illy, as well as popular supermarkets, including M&S, Lidl, Sainsbury's and Tesco.

All the coffees included had a strength rating of three on the packet to reflect both roast intensity and flavour profile, rather than just strictly caffeine content.

Achieving the top spot was Cafédirect Fairtrade Colombia Reserva Ground Coffee, which features notes of caramel, butterscotch, fruit and an aroma of rich brown sugar, according to the experts.

The key to its success? The flavour and a nice, full-bodied caffeine, which helped create a deliciously rich and endlessly smooth brew.

As a top tip for any coffee fans, the experts suggested adding a small dash of milk to create a sweeter, velvety taste, while also retaining the delicious natural elements.
