Senoc scores first-round KO, Lee stops Demecillo to capture WBF title in Asturias

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Big Yellow Boxing Gym’s top prospect Arlando “Hisoka” Senoc Jr. continued his rapid rise in Philippine boxing, stopping Jhonrey Labajo in a lightning-fast opening round knockout of their eight-round bout Sunday night at the Asturias Gym Auditorium.

The unbeaten Southern Leyte prospect wasted little time making his presence felt, overwhelming Labajo to secure his eighth knockout and preserve his perfect professional record via a 55-second mark knockout win in the very first round.

The victory improved Senoc’s mark to 9-0 with eight knockouts, further strengthening his reputation as one of the promising young fighters on the Cebu boxing scene.

Labajo, a seasoned Talisay City fighter who came in with a 4-5-2 record and four knockouts, had been expected to provide Senoc with a stern test. He had shown throughout his career that his punching power could make him dangerous despite his record, but Senoc proved too much on the night.

After calculating Labajo’s punching power and style, Senoc unleashed power punches that forced his opponent on the defensive. Labajo attempted to swarm Senoc with combinations failed with the latter returning the favor with a left straight followed by a right hook that went straight to Labajo’s body resulting to the sub 1-minute knockout.

The victory yielded Senoc the Visayas Professional Boxing Association (VISPROBA) super flyweight title.

Lee outlasts Demecillo

In the featured bout, Taiwan’s Ming Hung Lee survived an early scare before stopping his last-minute replacement opponent, Filipino veteran Carlo Demecillo in the fourth round to claim the WBF Austral-Asian Super Featherweight Championship.

Demecillo stunned Lee in the opening minute with a powerful body shot that sent the Taiwanese fighter to the canvas. Lee recovered, however, and gradually turned the fight in his favor before dropping Demecillo and prompting the referee to stop the contest in the fourth.

The win lifted Lee’s record to 12-1 with nine knockouts and extended his winning streak to four.

Demecillo accepted the fight on short notice after Reycar Auxilio withdrew because of an injury. The 30-year-old veteran entered with a 19-13-2 record and 11 knockouts and had faced a number of notable opponents during his career.

The Asturias card was promoted by Big Yellow Boxing Promotions, headed by Seth Tio and May Flor Tio in partnership with the town Mayor Dongkoy Dumdum.
