Thailand gunman calls TV presenter live on air after government office shooting

A gunman called a Thai TV host during a live broadcast and admitted to shooting at a local government office in Nonthaburi province on Monday (10 August).

Thongchai Yenprasert, the president of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organisation, died in hospital while receiving treatment after he was shot multiple times, according to officials.

A well-known former lawmaker, Chalong Reawraeng, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

He first claimed it in a phone call to Anchalee Paireerak, a popular political commentator, who was livestreaming on YouTube at the time. The presenter said on the livestream: “You just shot him just now? Is he dead? Did he die?

“Don't go anywhere, you have to wait there for the police, don't move around."

Viewers were not able to hear the caller.
