The District Health and Family Welfare Department and the District RCH Division jointly inaugurated the National Deworming Day (NDD) drive at the Government Lower Primary School, Ambedkar Chowk, in Yadgir on Monday.

The nationwide campaign was officially launched on Monday, with a follow-up Mop up which is scheduled from August 10 to 17. The drive aims to administer Albendazole tablets to all children and adolescents aged 1 to 19 across the district.

Mahesh Biradar, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, advised the public to use the programme to ensure children remain healthy and free from worm infestations.

The albendazole tablets are being administered at local anganwadis. The children aged between 1 and 2 are given half a tablet, while those aged 2 to 19 receive one full tablet.

Coverage with tablets extends to all government, aided, and private schools, pre-university (PU) colleges, as well as ITI and technical institutions. Out-of-school children of this age are being identified and administered the tablets at the anganwadis.

According to District RCH Officer Mallappa K., the district has set a total target to reach 5,13,173 children aged 1 to 19.

Taluk Health Officer Hanumanth Reddy stressed the importance of hygiene alongside medication, advising children to keep their surroundings clean, wash their hands regularly before meals, and trim their nails weekly. He further stated that administering the tablets twice a year is helpful for preventing health complications and ensuring proper physical growth.
