The district unit of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) staged a protest in Kalaburagi city on Monday, demanding the immediate implementation of the revised minimum wages notified by the State government and urging the Centre to withdraw the VB-G RAM G Act and the four labour codes.

The protesters took out a march from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk to the Deputy Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum to the State government through the district administration.

Addressing the protesters, CITU district president M.B. Sajjan said the State government issued the final notification revising minimum wages on May 22, 2026, based on scientific calculations and in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court. Despite the notification, the revised wages were yet to be implemented, he said.

Urging the State government to implement the revised wages immediately, Mr. Sajjan alleged that the delay in implementing the revised wages was affecting nearly one crore workers across the State.

The CITU leaders also opposed the Union government’s VB-G RAM G Act, which replaced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), and demanded its withdrawal. They also sought the repeal of the four labour codes.

Karnataka Pranth Raitha Sangha leader Sharanabasappa Mamshetty said farmers were already struggling with mounting debt, while rising prices of essential commodities, unemployment and privatisation policies had added to the difficulties faced by ordinary people.

Mr. Mamshetty also opposed the Draft Seeds Bill-2025, the Electricity (Amendment)Bill-2025, and the national policy framework on agricultural markets.
