The Guardian has reported the case of Joyce Thomas, a retired nurse, who was issued with a deportation order from her longtime home in Sweden last November.

According to the British paper, her case is the latest of 2,500 British people ordered out of Sweden after Brexit, in what "campaigners and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) have said is an inexplicably hardline approach taken by the Swedish authorities."

The Guardian previously reported on a case, two years ago, when Sweden threatened to deport a British woman with dementia from a care home, shortly before she died.

In Thomas' case, The Guardian reports, the widow was given just four weeks to leave Sweden. The deportation order was given three years after her husband's death.

After that loss, Thomas moved from the home they had together to an apartment in Hammarö, close to her son and grandchildren, and to her husband’s grave.

With the help of lawyers who are working pro bono, she is fighting the deportation order, which, The Guardian writes, is causing "huge distress" at her advanced stage of life.
