The life of veteran communist leader, freedom fighter and prominent trade union leader A.J. Mudhol, who dedicated himself to the cause of the common people, workers and oppressed sections throughout his life, should serve as an inspiration to the present generation, said MLA and Chairman of Karnataka Slum Development Board Prasad Abbayya.

He was addressing a gathering after performing bhoomi puja for the construction of Mudhol Bhavan at Myadar Oni in Old Hubballi on Sunday.

The building is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹1 crore under the Chief Minister’s Infrastructure Development Programme.

Recalling Mudhol’s contribution to the Karnataka unification movement, Mr. Abbaiya said he actively participated in the struggle for the unity and overall development of the State. He also recalled Mudhol’s sustained efforts to secure due recognition for workers’ labour, fair wages and basic rights, and his significant role in strengthening trade union organisations.

“The sacrifice, commitment and people-oriented outlook of veteran leaders such as Mudhol should be made known to the present generation. His struggles for the rights of workers and weaker sections will always be remembered. It is our collective responsibility to take his ideals to future generations,” Mr. Abbayya said.

He said an additional ₹1 crore would be released for the construction of a well-equipped Mudhol Bhavan. He directed the contractor to ensure quality in the construction work and said efforts were being made for the overall development of the constituency.

A.J. Mudhol’s sons Baseer Mudhol, Anwar Mudhol and Babajan Mudhol, former mayor Radhabai Safari and leaders Rajshekhar Menasinakai, Shafi Muddebhal, Nazir Kolkar and others were present.
